FUNDING SCHEMES FOR SCHOOLS/COMMUNITITES

BIG LOTTERY AWARDS FOR ALL

Information – This is part of the Big Lottery Fund grant scheme for local communities. There are different schemes for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Who Can Apply – Schools, Town/Parish Councils, Health Bodies and Non-Profit Groups.

How Much Can Be Applied For – Grants are available up to £10,000

ASDA FOUNDATION

Information – Grants are available for Schools, Charities, and Community Groups in local areas.

Who Can Apply – Schools, Community Groups, and Non-Profit Groups.

How Much Can Be Applied For – Grants are available from £5,000 – £10,000.

CHILDREN IN NEED

Information – Three grant deadlines throughout the year – January 15th, May 15th, and September 15th.

Who Can Apply – Non-Profit Groups, and Registered Charities who work with disadvantaged children and people under 18 years of age.

How Much Can Be Applied For – 2 types of grants are available – small grants up to £10,000 and main grants of over £10,000.

AVIVA

Information – The Aviva Community Fund lends a helping hand to local communities by offering support and funding for inspirational causes.

Who Can Apply – Community Groups, and Non-Profit Groups.

How Much Can Be Applied For – The average grant awarded is circa £25,000.

COMIC RELIEF LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Information – UK Community Foundations is the managing agent for Comic Relief’s Stronger Communities theme.

Who Can Apply – Organisations and People who want to invest in their local communities where it is most needed.

How Much Can Be Applied For – The average grant awarded is circa £3,200.

TESCO BAGS OF HELP

Information – Bags of Help is Tesco’s exciting local community grant scheme where the money raised by the sale of carrier bags is being used to fund thousands of local projects in communities right across the UK.  Projects that bring benefit to their community will get the green light – these range from improving community buildings and outdoor spaces to buying new equipment, training coaches or volunteers and hosting community events. Administration of the local funding is being managed by the community charity with a green heart, Groundwork, which specialises in transforming communities and the local environment for the better.

Who Can Apply – Voluntary or Community organisations (including registered charities/companies), Schools, Health bodies (e.g. Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), NHS Hospital Trust, Foundation Trust), Parish/Town Councils, Local Authorities and Social Housing Providers.

This list is not exhaustive and there will be many other types of organisations that will be funded.

How Much Can Be Applied For – Between £1,000 – £4,000

ERNEST COOK TRUST

Information – The Ernest Cook Trust aims to help children learn about their environment and the countryside.

Who Can Apply – Non-Profit Groups, Schools, and Registered Charities.

How Much Can Be Applied For – 2 Types of grants are available – small grants up to £4,000 and larger grants of over £4,000.

HERITAGE LOTTERY FUND

Information – This fund invests in projects that will have a lasting impact and make a difference for people, heritage and communities. They typically have over £300m a year to invest in new projects.

Who Can Apply – Applications that help people to learn about, look after and celebrate heritage in a fun and
enjoyable way.

How Much Can Be Applied For – Various types of grants available from between £3,000 – £5m.

BIG SOCIETY CAPITAL

Information -The Big Society Capital improves the lives of people in the UK by connecting social investment to charities and social enterprises.

They engage with investors, fund managers, charities and social enterprises to make it easier to use social investment. With their co-investors, they have made over £1bn of new capital available to organisations with a social mission, through investments into fund managers and social banks.

Who Can Apply – Charities and Social Enterprises that will have the ability to repay an investment through generated income.

How Much Can Be Applied For – Various types of grants available.

WREN (WASTE RECYCLING ENVIRONMENTAL)

Information – WREN offer tax credits to help to benefit the lives of people living close to landfill sites.

Who Can Apply – Community Groups, Heritage Groups, and Conservation Groups.

How Much Can Be Applied For – Between £2,000 – £100,000.

BIFFA AWARD

Information – The Biffa Award gives grants to community projects near landfill sites. They build communities and transform lives.

Who Can Apply – Community Groups, and Environmental Projects.

How Much Can Be Applied For – 2 Types of grants are available – small grants up to £5,000 and larger grants up to £50,000.

SANTANDER FOUNDATION

Information – The Santander Foundation plays an important role in Santander UK’s flagship community programme, The Discovery Project.

The aim of The Discovery Project is to help disadvantaged people have the confidence to make the most of their future. The Santander Foundation provides grants to support knowledge, skills and innovation to give disadvantaged people the confidence to discover and create a new world of opportunities.

Who Can Apply – UK Registered Charities, Community Interest Companies and Credit Unions to fund small, local projects helping disadvantaged people.

How Much Can Be Applied For – Discovery Grants of up to £5,000.

FUNDING SCHEMES FOR INDIVIDUALS

FAMILY FUND

Information – Family Fund aim to support families raising disabled or seriously ill children and young people by providing grants for a wide range of items such as washing machines, sensory toys, play equipment, family breaks, bedding, clothing and computers/tablets.

CASH FOR KIDS

Information – Cash for Kids supports children from birth to 18 years old who are ill, disabled, underprivileged or who simply need extra care and guidance. The value of a grant is typically from £1,000 to £3,000 but they will consider applications for larger amounts. Grants must directly benefit the children, but they often have a life-enhancing effect on their families too.

MAKE A WISH

Information – Make A Wish give seriously ill children, aged between 3 and 17 years, the chance to do something extraordinary. One of the four key themes includes “I wish to have..” which is for a child with a critical illness to own something special or particular toy etc.

ELIFAR FOUNDATION

Information – The name Elifar stands for Every Life Is For A Reason. The Elifar Foundation is a small charity which helps to improve the lives of children and young adults with severe learning difficulty and associated physical disability. They provide grants for a variety of items including electronic wheelchairs, specialised seating, eating aids, special beds and trikes, hoists, communication devices, sensory equipment and specialist holidays.

THE DICKIE BIRD FOUNDATION

Information – The Dickie Bird Foundation awards grants to many disadvantaged individuals under the age of 16 for sports equipment and clothing of varying amounts.

CHILDREN TODAY

Information- Children Today provide grants fo vital, specialised equipment to families in need. They aim to help give children and young people with disabilities, up to the age of 25, with disabilities more independence and the best possible quality of life – from adapted trikes to a powered wheelchair.
